Retro activity becomes new fitness trend Learn to Hula Hoop your way to health in the Parksville area August 8-16th

The “Hoop Coach”, Betty Hoops will be in the Parksville area for 8 days only to provide workshops and training in hoop dance. A Guinness Book of World Record Holder for running 10 kilometres while hooping, Betty has taken one of America’s favourite past times and turned it into a fun sport. She is coming to the area to offer workshops for kids, and adults at all levels of fitness, from August 8-14th and then from August 14-16th she is offering a three day intensive course in teacher training – for anyone interested in becoming a certified Hoop Dance Teacher. The Hoop Dance program is based on body mechanics, body energetics, sport training, aerobics, dance and three forms of yoga. According to Betty, learning how to hoop is not as easy for adults as it is for kids; but Betty says that’s because adults take up more space and therefore need to use more space to move properly and effectively. “I fit people with the right size hoop, my measurements include: height, weight and spinal tension.” She adds, “It’s important to find the right circumference and weight for your proportions. The safest hoop weight for adults is 2-3 pounds and no more.”

Betty began hooping in 1998, hooping for 6 hours a day

She will be in the local Parksville area to bring her unique fitness awareness to the Coombs Fall Fair, Bradley Centre in Coombs, Qaulicum Beach Community Hall, Errington War Memorial Hall, Fitness Connection in Parksville, Forever Yung Dance Studio in Parksville, and the Errington Market… (working on a spot in Nanaimo too). Make Lemonade out of Lemons. Summer job ideas for kids… and what they will learn.

Here is some timely advice for the summer – getting kids going on operating their own businesses. Lemonade Stands, tutoring, cleaning garages and more are great ideas for kids to get the entrepreneurial bug (and learn about works ethic etc). Kim Deep is the CMA, author (most recent title: “Conductor Kash and the Prosperity Express”), mom, entrepreneur and president of Kidz Make Cents Inc. in the know and her quest is to make kids understand financial education, principles regarding wealth and financial literacy.

Kim is available for interview (in person in Edmonton and via phone across the rest of Canada). Please contact Kimberly Plumley of Publicity Mavens at 250-390-9285 or via email at kim@publicitymavens.com. Below is the press release.

Many thanks!

Kim

Make Lemonade out of Lemons!

Summer is here, kids are off school and looking for something to do… how about helping kids open, run and operate their very own business. Kids can earn profits way before wages and with the tight economy and job market, now is the time to help kids learn how to earn!

We can help kids take their talents, passions, and strengths and start businesses earning money doing what they love to do!

This will foster confidence and teach important life skills about leadership, pride and the value of a dollar!

“A New Era of Responsibility”

We have experienced first hand what happens when people are irresponsible with money, this irresponsibility took the world to its knees, and every person has felt the effects around the world!

I know we will come out of this stronger and wiser just as we have in the past. But… no more… business as usual, I’m too busy or I don’t have time. >From this day forward you must be responsible for anything that will affect your future and your families future. Gandhi says, “If we are to have real peace in the world, we will have to begin with the children.”

The same applies with money. We must start when our children are young teaching them the basic foundations necessary in understanding money. Just as we do with ABC’s, 123,s and sharing is caring.

Some great ideas for summer businesses for kids:

  1. Washing cars
  2. Pet sitting
  3. Clean garages
  4. Selling items on Kijiji or free classified ad websites
  5. Collecting mail/watering plants
  6. Lemonade stand
  7. Gardening/yard clean up/lawn cutting
  8. Tutoring

The Groove Mamma Goes Gourmet

Nadine Hughes delivers a stress-free approach to

hosting your friends and puts the ‘party’ back into being a mom

Toronto, ON – Most moms find the job of being good nurturers, wives and working professionals a fast-forward frenzy that leaves little time or desire to gather with friends and relax around a homemade meal and some fabulous cocktails. Help, in the shape of a new e-Book, is at hand for any time-strapped, frazzled moms out there.

Written by food personality, cooking teacher, mom and serial home entertainer Nadine Hughes, “The Groove Mamma Goes Gourmet: Easy Ways to Put the Fun Back into Entertaining”, is part party planning, part menu and recipe planning, and part life coaching book all in one.

While this resourceful, accessible and entertaining e-book is focused on getting the party started without too much stress, it’s also about reaffirming your adulthood and enjoying your “grown-up time”. As Nadine, a mother of two, says about her ‘adults-only’ parties, “I’m all for family parties and get-togethers that involve the children in our lives, but I am also a firm believer that you need to make time to laugh and talk to people who don’t necessarily require you to wipe after them…”

The Groove Mamma Goes Gourmet is a one-stop party-planning resource – from providing general tips on planning and hosting a party, to providing menu and recipe ideas.

Hughes also provides many useful tips on getting organized in advance – including insights on preparing a room, setting a table as well as a detailed schedule for starting your preparations – as many as 7 days in advance – just to make partying a little less stressful.

While Nadine originally intended writing a book in the next year or so, the e-book is being released now due to an increasing call for realistic entertaining tips and menus for busy lifestyles; many of them emanating from the people who have attended her classes or seen her on TV. “I looked to my own life and voila, The Groove Mamma Goes Gourmet was born!

It’s never too late to get your party groove back and this e-book is designed to help people, especially busy parents, find the energy and desire to start entertaining again. Life is too short not to enjoy good food, good wine and good company!”

About the Author: Nadine Hughes is the creator and owner of, The Cook’s Companion , through which she offers kitchen consultations and menu planning services as well as a cooking and entertaining school that offers classes for adults and teens throughout Southern Ontario. She is also a published writer and avid blogger who is often called upon for “emergency” cooking and entertaining advice. In addition to The Cook’s Companion, Nadine launched the internet based The Menu Companion in February 2008, which markets and sells comprehensive menu planners that focus on the planning and preparation of dinner parties. This concise e-book is the perfect summer stress saver – and who better to take sage party advice from than the original partying mama herself!
